Douglas Bay Yacht Club is a long established club providing facilities for sailing and motor boating, with special emphasis on help, advice and assistance for beginners and novice sailors. We exist to promote the Sport of Sailing and help people to:

• get started with a “Boating for Beginners” evening theory course in Spring, after which we offer
• Learn to Sail – practical sailing instruction in Sonata keelboats in Spring and Summer, plus
• one-on-one tuition for those who prefer it – in your own boat or Club boats
• we give people the opportunity to share their sailing passion, either cruising or racing
• we encourage those with a little more experience to race with us in a friendly atmosphere

Our Club also provides:

• Evening lectures, discussions and training during the winter
• -Help and advice on choosing, buying and maintaining a boat
• -Special money-saving Insurance Rates for members boats
• Deep water Moorings in the Outer Harbour, permitting 24-hour access to the open sea. No need to be stuck in the Marina because of the tide.
• -Summer boat parking for dinghies and small craft on trailers on the Fort Anne Jetty
• -Winter boat storage for yachts and motor boats laid-up on the Jetty
• -A Freight Container on the Jetty for safe storage of inflatable dinghies and gear
• -24-hour Slipway access from the Jetty into the outer harbour
• -Sailing and Racing training in the Bay on Tuesday evenings
• -Yacht Racing programmes on Thursday evenings and Sundays, with trophies and prizes. We hold an Annual Regatta in June each year

Participation is encouraged in Bay, Coastal and Offshore racing, with opportunities for beginners to crew on members boats

For those interested in cruising we offer Cruising programmes in Manx waters on weekends, plus longer cruises to Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.

We also have Motor Boat members who cruise Manx and Irish Sea waters

The Club has a good and friendly Social life with –

• Sunday lunches for members and guests at the end of each month
• Evening meals for members in summer after sailing
• Social events for members including Darts inter-club competition, Spring Skippers & Crews Night, BBQs, Christmas and New Year Parties, Annual Dinner & Dance, Games Nights, Quiz Nights, etc.,
• People can join as Social Members (Associates) as well as Sailing Members

Members are encouraged to use:

• Our large Clubhouse with a balcony overlooking the Marina in the Inner Harbour
• Extensive facilities including a Members Lounge and Bar, with Pool table, Darts and TV, comfortable settees, tables for meals and a Library
• Large Function Suite with Bar and toilets. Capacity up to 85 seated for Dinners and 120 standing for Receptions and Buffets.

Our Function Suite is available for use and hire for –

• Birthday Parties, Weddings, Anniversaries, Christenings, Formal Dinners, etc.,
• Daytime Business Meetings, Seminars, Training Courses, with a sound system, wall screen and projection facilities,
• There is also a smaller Training Room for theory courses and small meetings
• Ground floor toilets and showers for members and visiting yachtsmen

There is a chair-lift to the upper floor and toilet facilities for the Disabled, plus a Crew Room on the ground floor for the use of the local Sailing for the Disabled organisation.

NOTE: Special rates are available for Members to hold private functions

RYA Approved Training Courses

The club is an RYA (Royal Yachting Association) approved Training Centre and offers courses in Marine Radio, First Aid, Diesel Engine Maintenance, Day Skipper and Yacht Master theory.

There is a one-off Joining Fee of just £25 for new Members and the Annual Subscriptions are very reasonable at £95 Full Membership, £65 Associate Membership and £10 Junior Membership. Discounts of 20% are available for Joint Memberships and Pensioners

There is also a low cost Outport Membership option of £20 for people who live off the island.
